With all the heat the ESRB has taken over the last 8 months or so it
was only a matter of time before someone tried to weasel their way into
the action as an alternative to their ratings. Next Generation
has an
article up
about MDC corporations new traffic light system which rates game
content based on their profanity, sexuality, and violence. It
sounds like an OK system but it still does not seem as descriptive or
useful as the one that the ESRB provides (is it that hard to read
folks?). I would hazard to guess that we'll some changes from the
ESRB in the coming year but it's more than likely going to deal with
how they rate the games (including a large scope of reviewers) that
actually play through portions of the game rather than just watching
video of the game.
