If you don't know what
Quake Live is, it's a free browser based version of
Quake 3 that's free and will allow you to duke it out with others online. Right now, you can
sign up to help beta test the game and if you are chosen, you'll be notified and have early access to the website and game. It follows in the footsteps of other free games being supplemented by advertisement dollars such as
Battlefield: Heroes. I have to say browsers have come a long way and having the ability to play a fast paced online game such as
Quake Live will be a great feat for developers. I'm curious as to why they decided to go with a browser version rather than a stand alone application. The only reason I can come up with is it will be easily accessible to all operating systems if they code for a browser.
