Klei Entertainments latest game has officially been released into early access. The action adventure made some serious waves when it premiered during Steam's most recent Next Fes this past February. Rotwood is now available on Steam!
What is Rotwood? Take the gorgeous art and animation that Klei is known for, apply it to a side-scrolling beat’em up and mix it with rogue-lite, action RPG elements. You and up to three friends will create your hero and battle it out against a variety of corrupt beasts as you upgrade your gear and weapons and defend your safe haven within the Rotwood.
I’ve already poured a handful of hours into the game and am absolutely in love with the gameplay cycle. I love beat’em ups, and rogue-lite RPGS, so the combination is like peanut butter and jelly in my eyes. Plus, using Klei’s art style, it looks absolutely gorgeous in motion. The only play works really well too as I did some adventuring with some random players over the weekend. While there isn’t any sort of communication aside from general emotes that the characters can perform, we still managed to tackle a couple of runs through the first- and second-levels of bosses at varying difficulties. I am really looking forward to seeing how the game changes over time, but I firmly feel it is off to a very good start.
