I saw a still photo of Alone in the Dark and thought, wow that guy looks like actor David Harbour. I clicked on the trailer and to my surprise a voice came on that sounded a lot like David Harbour’s voice. And then it cut to an interview with the actual real person David Harbour. Imagine my surprise. The new trailer shows off both of the main characters Emily and Edward, as well as a few of the other residents of Derceto Manor. Watching the trailer gives you a glimpse of Emily's and Edward's descent into madness. "One of the most important parts of the game is the place. It's at its very core a haunted mansion story. That's why we needed to make sure we recreate Derceto again!", says Creative Director Mikael Hedberg.
As I said, David Harbour voices Edward while actress Jodie Comer voices Emily. In the trailer both actors talk about how there will be different story endings and the “colorful, vibrant characters you will encounter.” The trailer goes on to show you what they mean when Edward runs into an NPC and then how different the dialogue if you were playing as Emily. I love the idea of playing the game twice over to see how differently a horror story can be based on who you play as.
Developers of Alone in the Dark wants this game to feel like a love letter to 90’s horror. While wanting to give off those vibes the game is actually set in the 1920s and has a ton of noir and Lovecraftian elements. Alone in the Dark will be out on March 20 for PC, Xbox Series S|X, and PlayStation 5.
