The Contra series has surely had its ups and downs over the past three decades since it first landed in arcades. The early days saw great games on in the arcade and on the NES, Genesis, and Super Nintendo. Unfortunately, the later entries didn't quite live up to the standards of the earlier games in the series (I'm looking at you, Rogue Corps).
Konami is looking to right that ship, with the help of WayForward, with a complete re-imagining of the original game. Contra: Operation Galuga will take players back to the adventure that started it all, with a fresh coat of paint and a ton of new / modern mechanics. Now there are multiple playable characters, a weapon progression system, multiple gameplay modes, and a variety of other modern-mechanics thrown into a familiar romp through the jungle and space levels. A playable demo of the game is now available on all platforms (PC, Switch, Xbox, and PS5) and the full game will launch on March 12, 2025.
