See what I did there? Rare, the company that used to make games for Nintendo, but are now owned by Microsoft, are re-releasing some of their greatest hits for the Nintendo Switch Online apps. Today, they announced that Snake Rattle and Roll (NES), RC Pro Am (NES), Battletoads: Battlemaniacs (SNES), Killer Instinct, and Blast Corps (N64). They also announced that these are all available today!
Snake, Rattle and Roll was released in the late 90s for the NES, and is an isometric action strategy game. Beat the enemies, weigh yourself, and find the exit. Simple enough. Until it's not.
RC Pro Am (NES) was released originally in 1988, and features 32 tracks. As you navigate through the courses, you can pick up upgrades to your remote control car. You race against three other cars in this single player high speed game. If you collect and spell the word "Nintendo", you can upgrade your actual vehicle.
Battletoads: Battlemaniacs is the sequel to the NES version of Battletoads. It's a little closer in graphics to the Arcade version, and is a side scrolling beat em up for two players. It is very difficult. Play this if you hate winning.
Killer Instinct (SNES) is the home port of the fighting game released in 1995, and was released in Arcades the year prior for the upcoming "Ultra 64" (Nintendo's former name for the N64). This is the game that introduced auto chains, and thrived on multi hit combos, announcing them after you pulled them off. This is also the same game that gave us the ULTRA COMBOOOOOO, and it's current version just got a crazy update, showing that it's still respected.
Blast Corps was originally released for the Nintendo 64 in 1997, and was kind of a proving ground for Rare and N64. 57 levels of destruction and puzzle solving while using different vehicles. I haven't played this one, so I'll get into it later for sure.
Reminder, you will need the Nintendo Switch Online service for the NES, and SNES games, but you'll need the Expansion Pack for the N64 games. The multiplayer online option is also available. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to play some RC Pro-Am, because yes.
