It’s been a long time coming, but at long last, pirate RPG Skull and Bones is preparing to set sail on February 16th. Today, Ubisoft has detailed what players can expect in terms of post-launch content, and I’ll be honest, it’s more robust than I expected.
For starters, there will be conflicts with legendary pirates like Phillipe La Peste and the Hubac Twins that take place across four seasons of content, spread out over the year, with each season culminating in a showdown against one of these pirate lords. Each season will also introduce new world events such as Merchant Convoys to take down or Elite Warships to destroy, as well as battles with some more natural naval predators, you might say.
Other endgame activities include an empire-building meta game called The Helm, which sees you taking over manufactories scattered around the game world to establish supply lines, trade routes, and ultimately, maximum profits. Like everything else in Skull and Bones, nothing is accomplished without a proper fight, as is the case with these supply chains. Legendary Heists are cooperative activities for you and other players to help build your pirate enterprise. On the other hand, Hostile Takeovers are PvP activities where you will compete with other players for plunder.
If you prefer more straight up combat, those take the form of Helm Wagers and Cutthroat Cargo modes, which put your gold and resources up for grabs against other players. All of this is in addition to other seasonal events, challenges, legendary treasure hunts, and seasonal leaderboards.
If you’re curious but not convinced, Ubisoft is hosting an open beta February 8th through 11th across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The beta will have a level cap and five exclusive rewards for participating, and your progress will carry over to the full game when it releases on February 16th. You can also check out our impressions from the closed beta that took place earlier this year.
