After teasing something eerily different for weeks now, DICE and EA revealed Battlefield 2042’s sixth season of post-launch content today called Dark Creations. In this new season, which launches October 10th, several of the No-Pat soldiers have been captured and experimented on, creating some sort of cyborg soldiers with glowing orange eyes. It’s still not entirely clear how these “dark creations” affect the battlefield, though DICE is teasing an in-game event around Halloween.
Of course, with the new season comes many new additions to the game including a new map called Redacted, new weapons, new gadgets, new cosmetics, a new 100 tier battle pass, and some quality-of-life improvements. EA is also hosting a free access period from October 12th through October 16th where the game will be entirely free to download and try out.
The Redacted map is the first ever totally indoor map in Battlefield franchise history. It’s inspired by some fan favorites from the series such as Operation Locker from Battlefield 4, and Operation Metro from Battlefield 3. Redacted is an infantry-only map set in Scotland that features tight close quarters combat.
New weapons include the VHX D3 assault rifle, the Laugo Alien LPCZ semi-automatic pistol, and the G428 marksman rifle. The ammo pouch and health pouch are new gadgets, which can be thrown at your teammates like in past Battlefield games. Meanwhile, a flying motorcycle looking thing called the YUV-2 Pondhawk is a new two-person transport vehicle which looks incredibly fun. As for gameplay changes, DICE has made improvements to aim assist for console players to address cross-play fairness, the recon class has been re-balanced, and vehicle handling has been tuned.
That about does it, but I would strongly encourage you to see it all in action in the new Season 6 gameplay trailer below. DICE are always masterful with their gameplay trailers, and this one has me sufficiently hyped for Dark Creations.
