One of my most anticipated games remaining on the entire 2023 calendar, Helldivers 2, appears to be preparing for an October launch, according to Insider Gaming, which reported that content creators were instructed through a Sony partnership program briefing to convey that the game is releasing in October in their upcoming coverage. In addition, over the weekend, an ESRB rating for the game was discovered and posted on Reddit, which typically means that a title is only a few months away from release, if that. Helldivers 2 has been rated Mature and its rating summary reads as follows:
"This is an action game in which players assume the role of soldiers attempting to win an intergalactic war. From a third-person perspective, players use pistols, assault rifles, sniper rifles, flamethrowers, turrets, grenades, and rocket launchers to shoot and kill enemies (e.g., robots, cyborgs, giant insects). Combat is accompanied by realistic gunfire, cries of pain, and blood-splatter effects; some areas of the battlefield depict bloodstains and dismembered corpses. Players can continue to attack defeated enemies, causing additional blood-splatter effects and dismemberment. Players can also shoot and kill human civilians during rescue missions."
October is packed full of major game releases, so it comes as a bit of a surprise that Helldivers 2 would release then, quite honestly. Competing for players' time against the likes of Assassin's Creed Mirage, Alan Wake 2, Forza Motorsport, Lords of the Fallen, and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is certainly a heavy lift. In fact, October's slate is so robust that I am wondering if Sony will launch this onto PlayStation Plus in some form or fashion.
Just a few weeks ago, developer Arrowhead Game Studios revealed the first substantial details for the game including a new trailer focused on co-op and combat gameplay, which you can check out below:
