We’re nearly at the halfway mark in the fourth season of Battlefield 2042’s post-launch roadmap, and the next seasonal event is set to get underway on Tuesday. Titled Leviathan Rising, the new event will run from April 11th through April 25th. Along with it comes a new 8v8 game mode called Shutdown, which focuses on smaller, close-quarters layouts for the Flashpoint, Exposure, Manifest, and Stranded maps.
Each Shutdown match will take about 10-15 minutes, and sees teams swapping sides mid-match while trying to accumulate the most points as attackers to achieve victory. A new Battlefield Bulletin elaborates that attacking players will look to plant Lances on enemy objectives, draining them of points to initiate a “shutdown”. Defenders will do just the opposite – eliminating attackers and diffusing Lances to keep objectives operational.
It reads like a conglomeration of game modes you’re probably familiar with across various shooters, and that’s not a bad thing in my book. You’ll also be able to earn unique cosmetic items over the two-week event by earning 15, 40, and 75 ribbons each week. Look, I’ve been beating the Battlefield 2042 drum since day one in my time here at Gaming Nexus. Don’t sleep on it…a leviathan rises.
