As a part of today’s indie spotlight over on the PlayStation Blog, developer Ironwood Studios revealed our first look at gameplay footage for supernatural driving roguelike game Pacific Drive, which is launching later this year on PlayStation 5 and PC.
Dangerous supernatural anomalies have overtaken part of the Pacific northwest, known as the Zone, and you’ll need to build, repair, and customize your old station wagon to prepare for runs into said Zone. Explore the twisted environment and abandoned buildings to collect the materials needed for repairs and upgrades on your vehicle.
Observing the anomalies and dangers in the environment are key to survival, as you’ll need to customize the wagon to withstand your next paranormal encounter. Judging from the trailer, there is a wealth of parts and options to meet your needs, including equipment racks, spotlights, upgraded fuel tanks, and more. The equipment you need will depend largely on what part of the Zone you’re heading to next. Marshlands will require tires equipped for mud and water, for instance.
Pacific Drive is shaping up to be a rather unique take on the roguelike, and things are looking delightfully eerie. Also, this is surely coming to VR at some point right? I mean look at that gameplay!
