Velan Studios and Mattel have announced a new mixed reality racing game coming to PlayStation consoles and mobile in March titled Hot Wheels: Rift Rally! The team at Velan are the masterminds behind Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, so they are already experts on the mixed reality genre of gaming. Rift Rally seamlessly blends the real world with over the top digital environments to bring a brand new AAA racing experience.
CEO of Velan Studios, Karthik Bala, explains: “Our mission at Velan has always been to create breakthrough games that feel magical to players. Our background combining digital and physical play taught us a lot about the mixed reality racing genre we invented, which we used to bring a transformational new experience to Hot Wheels: Rift Rally.”
So how does it all work? The physical Chameleon RC car can digitally transform into more than 140 vehicles including iconic Hot Wheels models such as Twin Mill, Bone Shaker, Mach Speeder, and Gotta Go. Two modes are offered: Campaign and Stunt. Players set up Rift Gates to create a mixed reality track to explore different maps and complete difficult challenges. Chain together wheelies, drifts and burnouts to beat high scores and earn new rewards!
Hot Wheels: Rift Rally is coming to the App Store for iOS and PlayStation Store on March 14, 2023. The launch edition will be priced at $129.99 whereas the collector's edition will cost $149.99. The Chameleon RC car, four Rift Gates for track building, and a charging cable will be included in each purchase, whereas the actual digital software is free to download. The collector's edition includes a special edition Chameleon with black deco and gold accents and a limited edition McLaren Senna Hot Wheels die-cast car in a display case.
