So after my first weekend turned me off entirely, I'm back in to Marvel Snap. At the time of that article communication between the developers and the playing community was difficult to uncover and I had wrongly accused it of being pay to win. Turns out the season rewards cards aren't completely paywall locked, they do go into the general card pool after the season is over. It's not all roses however, as it remains pretty difficult to build your deck outside of spending money as the primary resource needed to actually unlock new cards (the blue credits) is meted out carefully, but whatever the Token Shop is coming too and I love Marvel so I'm back, even if Elliot recently wrote about some wrinkles under the hood.
However, there is one aspect of Marvel Snap that is... well like the title says: it's quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever seen in gaming. With Snap you have the cards you are dealt and the board of three lanes on which you play. Each lane gets a special ability. Sometimes bad, sometimes good, sometimes just what you need based on the theme of your deck or sometimes playing right into your opponent's hands. Most of the time, it's cool. But every once in a while you get Ego, and Ego is so damn stupid.
When Ego pops a tile you have to sit back and let the AI play the cards for both sides until the game is over. And Ego, as far as I can tell, is just a random number generator who randomly selects and places cards as long as it is within the rules. Ego has no strategy and the game, which relies on planning and skill just turns into a coin flip. I just... I just can't with Ego. It's not funny. It's not fun. It just needs to go.
