Hideo Kojima is finally getting to make his movie, after talking for years about how he had larger aspirations than just making video games. Today, film industry site Deadline reported that Kojima's studio Kojima Productions and film production company Hammerstone Studios have partnered together to produce a film based on the Death Stranding IP.
The project will be led by Hideo Kojima in collaboration with Barbarian executive producer Alex Lebovici - who owns Hammerstone Studios. The plot for the film is said to be under wraps at the moment, but Deadline reports that it will introduce new elements and characters to the Death Stranding universe. No announcements have been made regarding any director, writers, or cast members at this time, but creator Hideo Kojima will finally get to stretch his wings and produce a feature film.
Interestingly, Sony does not appear to have any involvement in the project at this time, despite them owning the Death Stranding IP, and also despite the existence of PlayStation Productions, their in-house film and television production apparatus.
Kojima Productions recently revealed a sequel to the 2019 original at The Game Awards.
