Battlefield 2042 will get its third season of post-launch content on November 22nd, alongside it being added to Xbox Game Pass and the EA Play library. Called “Escalation”, this new batch of content includes a new map, new specialist, new weapons, new vehicle, and a new Battle Pass.
Spearhead is a new map set in the Swedish wilderness, and it looks like it will provide a good mix of combat scenarios for players. Rasheed Zain is a new Egyptian specialist who comes with a unique airburst rifle, as well as the ability to immediately recharge his health after taking down an enemy.
In addition, there are some new tools of destruction coming in season 3, starting with the Rorsch Mk-4 Railgun, which shoots super-fast projectiles and features multiple firing modes. A double-barreled, semi-automatic NVK-S22 Smart Shotgun is also a part of the package, as is a new Bullpup Pistol sidearm. And last, but certainly not least, is the addition of throwing knives (!!) as a lethal equipment option.
I haven’t even touched on the new vehicle, the EMKV90-TOR Tank, which is equipped with a railgun and has two operating modes: mobility mode and siege mode. Mobility mode increases speed at the cost of damage, while siege mode does the exact opposite.
Coming later in season 3 is the much-requested re-work of specialists, which will group them into the traditional classes Battlefield fans have come to expect. Also on the way are more map re-works, with Manifest and Breakaway getting a facelift this season.
Look, I’ve played Battlefield 2042 for more than 100 hours and I’ll just be blunt with you: it’s a good game. It certainly didn’t start that way, but like so many other games these days, it’s time has come. Check it out on Xbox Game Pass and EA Play on November 22nd, or during one of three free trial periods coming to Xbox on December 1st – 4th, Steam on December 1st – 5th, and PlayStation on December 16th – 23rd.
