Kynseed is a clever new life sim that has been in Early Access on Steam since November 2018. Developed by PixelCount Studios, a group founded by former Fable developers, Kynseed has had four years of gestation, and is now ready to sprout into full release on December 6.
The concept of Kynseed revolves around generation growth and progress. At the beginning of the game, the player plants an acorn to grow into a family tree. The player's choices dictate the shapes of the branches. When the player character dies, their children take over the adventure, allowing for continuity throughout the generations.
Players will raise families, explore for secrets, and run businesses. Like any good life sim worth its salt, there will be farming, combat, and a variety of crafting professions to pursue. The whole thing looks pretty deep, with a lot of content for fans of the genre to dig into.
"Kynseed is the game we’ve always dreamed of making," said PixelCount Co-Founder Neal Whitehead. "When Charlie and I first met we were united by our shared passion for the kind of quirky, unique and very British adventures we were able to develop together with the team at Lionhead, and we're certain we're not alone. Over the last few years working on Kynseed we’ve seen our Early Access community grow to more 100,000 players. We're looking forward to opening the land of Quill to even more players, and we can promise launch day won't be the end of this tale..."
Kynseed will launch for PC on 6 December and is available to pre-order now on Steam for $24.99.
