Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is off to a scalding-hot start, earning $800 million in sell-through (revenue from copies sold) during its launch weekend on the way to becoming the best-selling opening weekend in franchise history.
After its first three days on the market, Modern Warfare 2 had surpassed the previous franchise high-water mark for sell-through – set by 2011’s Modern Warfare 3, which needed five days to hit the mark. This year’s entry in the series has also broken franchise records for unique players and hours played for a Call of Duty launch period.
The $800 million opening weekend is more than other major entertainment launches of 2022, including Top Gun: Maverick and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
