PlayStation announced today that their PlayStation Stars loyalty rewards program is launching September 29th (as in tomorrow) in Asian markets, including Japan. They also revealed that it is releasing in North and South America next week on October 5th, followed by Europe and Australia on October 13th.
The PlayStation Stars program is free to join, with players needing an adult account for PlayStation Network to sign-up. A PlayStation Plus membership is not required to join, although being a member will grant extra benefits that were not disclosed. Players can join via the PlayStation App on iOS and Android devices or at playstation.com. The program is not directly accessible on PlayStation consoles at this time.
By being a PlayStation Stars member, players can earn rewards by completing campaigns and activities, such as the “Monthly Check-In” campaign which only requires you to play any game in a month to receive a reward. One of the very first campaigns will be the “Hit Play/1994” campaign, and will require you to correctly launch games that match song-based clues to receive a collectible. Rewards range from PSN wallet funds to digital collectibles you can display on your PSN profile.
