PlayStation announced that they have entered into an agreement to acquire mobile game developer Savage Game Studios. The European studio was founded in 2020 with offices in Berlin, Germany and Helsinki, Finland, and they will work to bring both new and existing PlayStation IP to mobile platforms. Their first project is a new AAA mobile live service action game, according to Head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst, who shared the news in a PlayStation Blog post.
PlayStation also announced the creation of the PlayStation Studios Mobile Division to work independently alongside their console and PC development initiatives. Hulst described the newly established division as being similar to PlayStation Studios' PC operation:
“Our mobile gaming efforts will be similarly additive, providing more ways for more people to engage with our content, and striving to reach new audiences unfamiliar with PlayStation and our games. Savage Game Studios is joining a newly created PlayStation Studios Mobile Division, which will operate independently from our console development and focus on innovative, on-the-go experiences based on new and existing PlayStation IP.”
