At my house, I'm always looking for a good online game to put my kids down in front of (turning the online chat off, of course - not trying to create little fascists here). Currently, they're entranced with Multiversus, but over the last year we've enjoyed Brawlhalla, Plants Vs. Zombies, and a long, productive period spent infuriating opponents in Knockout City.
But here comes Turbo Golf Racing, sliding in from the side and looking to usurp the family's online Sunday mornings. Turbo Golf Racing (for those who have missed it so far) is an 8-player online competitive...um...car and golf game. Players zip around courses, using their cars as putters in a race to be the first to sink a putt at the end of the course. Players have a variety of cars and balls to choose from, each of which has its own traits to match a player's style. Does is sound bonkers? Yes. Are we totally going to try it? Double yes.
I took a crack at Turbo Golf Racing this morning, and found that I really enjoy the way the game is competitive, but not in the usual way. No one is trying to steal your ball; rather it is a race to see who can complete the course first, or if you can even compete it at all. I found myself ignoring the other players, and just being satisfied that I could get the ball into the hole - because often I could not. Take a look at my attempt to play here:
Turbo Golf Racing is out now on Steam Early Access and Xbox Game Preview on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Microsoft Store, retailing for $17.99. Or, if you are a real-talk gamer that doesn't mess around, you can play via Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
