The game's been delayed until next year, but we finally got our first gameplay look at Starfield. Some say it's Elders Scrolls in space, and it does have that vibe, but I'm sure it'll be more than that.
The trailer shows off the early part of the game where you arrive on the planet Kreet. The landscape looks very rocky and you pilot a mech looking device. I have to say the landscape looks incredibly detailed even if it's just a desolate rocky space planet.
Out of the gate and alien comes up and scoots away with a few others. So not all aliens are hostile, but I'm sure most will be.
There's some mining involved as you gather resources and the first location is a research lab. It's not a safe zone though as pirates have taken control. The gun play looks like Fallout 4. There's even that familiar indicator of a grenade near you.
Hacking is shown and it's a little mini-game. While not exactly like the lockpicking in Elders Scrolls, you'll have to do a little maneuvering to unlock items.
You'll be invited to enjoy the last group of space explores called Constellation and here in the trailer, you see the city of New Atlantis. It's a lot more colorful than the first one and yeah, that watch you get in the special edition is part of your gear.
There seems to be a lot of options to customize your spacesuit as I see a lot of different options available on the NPCs.
Character creation gets a nice overhaul. If you remember the robust character options of Fallout 4, it looks like Starfield builds on that even more giving you more control over how your character looks.
You get three starting skills based on the background you choose. Optional traits gives you advantages or disadvantages. Skills become available as you level up and you can increase the skills themselves as well.
Crafting is there and building an outpost is also in place. Both of these shown remind me of Fallout 4. Hire NPCs to help take care of your outpost so you don't have to run it yourself.
And yes, you can build a spaceship. Make a ship that suits your needs and taste. Crew members can be hired to man your custom ship as well.
Bethesda is saying you can land anywhere on any planet and explore. With over a hundred systems and over a thousand planets to explore, that's a lot to walk around in so hopefully it gives players a ton of things to discover.
All told, it looks good and I can't wait to try out. I'm cautiously optimistic about the game and hopefully with the delay, they can get a lot of it right and solid.
