Sony showed off what the PlayStation VR2 headset today and as you can see, there's some similarities and differences from the past headset.
The halo design has been kept, which is something I don't like as much as others. For the HMDs I have, I always get a top strap for more comfort, but it works with a lot of others. The addition of an IPD adjustment dial will help with clarity.
Like the Quest 2, there's four cameras on each corner of the headset for inside out tracking. No longer is it relying on the camera that's attached to the PlayStation or colored markers for the controllers. This should help out a lot in terms of tracking coverage and accuracy.
The controllers have a tracking ring around it like the Quest 2 and HTC VIVE Cosmos but sits more around the wrist area. I actually like this change to maybe help with being able to bring your hands together a little bit closer.
Overall, I like the design and the changes being implemented. Now the specs seem really solid as well so Sony might have a really true winner of a VR headset on their hands here and I hope other companies are taking note of the things Sony's including in theirs as they look to build newer HMDs for consumers.
