My daughter Pearl and I really enjoy playing Ubisoft's UNO adaptation, and we've absolutely had a blast checking out the recent special versions that Ubi has been creating to coincide with some of its major releases. We look forward to every new version, so when we saw that there is a new DLC based on Far Cry 6 (subtitled Call of Yara), we knew we would have to take time this weekend to jump in and check it out.
Pearl and I hopped in with very little in the way of research or preparation, figuring out the new mechanics on the fly. Luckily, Ubisoft keeps things very simple and easy to comprehend, so within one hand we had grasped most of the new rules.
In the Far Cry 6 version of UNO, players gain 100 "coins" each time they get a turn. (Get skipped or have to draw a card? No 100 coins. Crushing.) Using the L2 button, PLAYERS can then summon one of four characters from Far Cry 6 and spend their hoarded cash to do special moves - discarding cards, plopping extra cards into opponents hands, or blocking opponents from using summons. There is also a new wild card that behaves kind of like a slot machine - giving or taking money from players at random. The element of chance really makes for some stellar - and devastating - gameplay moments.
Check out our session here to see the game in action:
After playing around with Call of Yara, we both agreed that this is probably our favorite version of UNO. The special summon powers add a new element of strategy, and also allow for some pretty devastating finishing moves. We love getting our hands down to just a few cards, and then using a summon to just dump them all on the table and win the hand. Fantastic.
Ubisoft's adaptation of UNO is now available on just about every platform (we have it on PlayStation and Stadia). It is totally worth the investment to get the UNO: Ultimate Edition, which bundles in a bunch of the cool DLC variations. The Far Cry 6 DLC currently runs $4.99 - which is also some well-spent cash. My family is going to spend hours on this thing, which is a lot of entertainment for the price of a hamburger.
Pearl and I will likely be streaming more UNO: Far Cry 6 Call of Yara in the days ahead. Subscribe to my YouTube channel for alerts when we go live!
