AWAY: The Survival Series has been in the works for a while now; Randy Kalista first posted about the game on Gaming Nexus back in May of 2019. But it seems now that AWAY is getting ready to sugar-glide across the finish line, and it developer Breaking Walls is adding a PS5 version to the previously announced PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 versions.
AWAY puts players in the shoes of a sugar glider - a small gliding rodent - as it stars in its own post-apocalyptic nature documentary. As the player sneaks around the forest (and the ruins of human civilization), a narrator will describe the action. This sounds similar to the Chris Parnell chatter in Maneater, but without all of the snark and blood.
AWAY: The Survival Series looks completely unique in the gaming space, and it has a crack team of industry veterans working to make it a reality. Breaking Walls is made up of veterans from such franchises as Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia, and Far Cry, and that team has been working on AWAY for five years.
The new PS5 version will allow the game to be rendered in much higher detail than on PS4, which will be reflected most dramatically in the game's newly announced photo mode. “AWAY: The Survival Series offers players a unique perspective on the world, both because you embody a sugar glider and because you’re in a wholly original world that’s part nature documentary and part sci-fi parable,” said Breaking Walls Co-Founder and Creative Director Laurent Bernier in a recent provided statement. “Being able to bring AWAY to PlayStation 5 means we can realize this world in more detail than ever, offering a more immersive experience.”
There is no specific release date yet, but AWAY: The Survival Series is scheduled to release on PC, PS4, PS5 and Xbox One in late summer. You can wishlist AWAY on Steam right here.
