Song in the Smoke is a gorgeous upcoming VR survival game, and it looks absolutely fascinating. But if the game is not on your radar, take a look at this amazing making-of documentary by Archipel - featuring 17-BIT founder and creative lead Jake Kazdal - and I guarantee you will want to play it. The video is a bit longer than most we post, at almost ten minutes, but it goes a long way towards selling the vision that 17-BIT were striving for in the development of Song in the Smoke, making the game seem very personal indeed for Kazdal.
According to a recent PR release, "Song in the Smoke utilizes VR to its full potential, allowing players to expertly identify threats with sound, sight, and smell. Use the world to your advantage, and stalk your prey from the tall grass. Intuitive VR controls let you line up the perfect shot with your bow, but be careful to listen out for the creatures that may be hunting you, or else you’ll have to fight for your life with clubs, sticks, or anything else you can get your hands on."
But more than the survival aspects of the game, I just want to wander around in the world that 17-BIT has created. I love the idea of wandering the woods, and noticing that the sun is setting. The entire experience sounds just lovely, and the above video goes a long way towards expressing that.
Song in the Smoke is expected on PlayStation VR, Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift later this year.
