At today's Square-Enix E3 presentation, Eidos Montreal announced a new Guardians of the Galaxy action game, starring all of the well known characters from the comic/film franchise.
While they didn't use the movie characters' likenesses, they certainly seemed to capture the tone of the thing. You don't have the big-name Hollywood faces and names, but the characters are clearly well represented in the game. Drax, Gamorra, Rocket, and Groot (and a killer rock soundtrack) are all present and accounted for, with the player taking on the role of Star-Lord for the duration of the game.
Square-Enix went hard on the game review, showing off a ton of content. In an extensive look at the gameplay, the battle system was detailed, showing off the usual chaotic hijinks and banter that one might expect, with the team hollering and cajoling each other through the battle. Interestingly, there also seemed to be a touch of Telltale in the game, with the teammates reacting dynamically to Star-Lord's decision making.
"Master Star-Lord’s dynamic combat style to obliterate foes with his Element Blasters and call on the unique abilities of each Guardian to defeat a wild variety of interplanetary enemies. Also, as self-proclaimed leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy, players will engage in select player-choice driven dialogue and interactions between Quill and the Guardians that further strengthens the bonds within this dysfunctional family."
Guardians of the Galaxy will be available on October 26, on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
