So, what are we playing?

More On: What we're playing

An artist was targeted in a hate crime, so she made a video game about it. It's no surprise that every Activision studio is now working on Call of Duty, since it was responsible for 27% revenue growth in the first quarter of 2021. The big case between Apple and Epic, which officially began Monday, started with the Epic CEO being asked to identify, in court, a PS5, an Xbox Series X, and a Nintendo Switch.

So, what are we playing?

After taking an involuntary break from gaming, it feels good to get back into some old games and get into some new ones too. With the team of the season cards coming out, I've been venturing back into FIFA 21 against my better judgement. I went back into Outriders to enjoy some end-game content. I'm relieved to say the latest few patches seem to have fixed many of the connectivity issues that plagued the game for the first few weeks post-launch. Finally, I started Resident Evil Village last night and boy, Capcom really is in top form right now. I don't think they've done much wrong at all with their last few releases and Resident Evil Village is no different. As far as my early impressions go, it's like Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7 had a baby and Capcom named it Resident Evil Village. Expect my full review soon.

Oh buddy, I'm in over my head with Subnautica: Below Zero. Get it? I got jokes. The game is still under embargo, but I do have it and I am playing it. I'm also working through reviews for a few other embargoed games, which I also can't talk about yet. So essentially, you can know that I'm playing games, but I can't tell you anything about them. We good?

In preparation for Mass Effect, which I'm expecting to be my next few weekends moving forward till I've finished the trilogy. I've spent the last week playing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. I originally played it on Xbox back in the day. The summer I bought it I spent three days constantly playing the game, staying up the first night until 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning, taking a quick cat nap and getting right back into it. For me it's a big nostalgic trip. Does the game hold up? In a lot of ways it does, but it does feel old with some of the dialogue options.

Perhaps a victim of open-world fatigue, perhaps a victim of The Last of Us Part II hype train, Days Gone never got its due. Not making the argument that it was game of the year, but some of the weightiest critics saddled the Oregonian biker zombie apocalypse with a big ol' C- on its report card. Some even tried to send a message to Sony, or something, giving it a three or four out of 10. I mean, c'mon. I'm heading over to Eastern Oregon again, though. This time on PC. The graphical upgrades won't be game changing. And the gameplay won't be changing either. So hopefully it's just a nice revisit to a place I liked, with its tough-guy-with-a-big-heart antihero, and a suitable excuse to crack some heads with a galvanized pipe, riding around on my motorcycle like it's Red Dead Redemption time.
