I've always had a fascination with Chernobyl. I spent quite a bit of time in Russia as a teenager, both before and after the fall of the Soviet Union, at a time that the Chernobyl disaster still hung heavily over the culture of the country. I was in Russia in 1993 when another nuclear accident took place, and the student group I was with waited on pins and needles for day to learn whether we would be evacuated or not (not, as it turned out).
All of this is to say that I am deeply interested in Chernobylite, the new sci-fi horror RGG from Polish development team The Farm 51. I'll likely never get the chance to go visit the Chernobyl site (totally would, given the chance), but this game may just be the next best thing. The devs at The Farm 51 3D scanned Chernobyl, and designed their game to take place in the actual architecture of the site.
Not only is the Chernobyl aspect ridiculously interesting, but the game itself looks great. I get some serious Fallout meets Metro vibes from the trailer, which puts the game squarely on my sweet spot. Chernobylite has been in early access on Steam for a while, and it has a Very Positive rating, with a lot of enthusiastic fans waiting for the release of the final version of the game to see how the in-game mystery wraps up.
The rest of us can get the full experience in July, when the game releases in its entirety on Steam and Epic Games Store, with news on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions coming soon.
