It Takes Two, the new co-op game from Hazelight Studios and EA, dropped on consoles and PC this week. To check out the first hour of the game, I recruited my current co-op partner, my eight-year-old daughter Pearl. We had a blast playing through the first few levels of It Takes Two on a rainy Sunday morning. By the time we beat the first boss, we had determined that we will play through (and stream) the rest of the game during Pearl's spring break this week.
Here is our first session, during which we learn what the game is all about, come to grip with the controls, and help each other through obstacles and the surprisingly difficult first boss fight. It Takes Two isn't necessarily intended to be a kids game, but beyond a bit of mild language, I haven't seen anything overly objectionable for children. Pearl is clearly having a good time playing, and the game offers a chance for us to communicate and work through problems together. Total win there.
Sound quality note: watching some of the video, it seems that Pearl had her microphone positioned directly under her nose, which results in some fairly outrageous breathing sounds. Umm, sorry about that. We had no idea, and we'll definitely be adjusting that in future streams.
It Takes Two is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Origin and Steam. GN's Charlie Coleman will be reviewing It Takes Two in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for that.
