The internet gave me a bit of heat in January when I pronounced the PlayStation VR dead. I actually had gamers hunting me down on my Twitter feed to tell me how stupid I am, despite my rather reasonable (I thought) assessment of the current state of the platform. Games had dried up, and it seemed like PS VR was being phased out completely while waiting for the eventual, only-possible-but-not-for-sure announcement of PS VR 2.
But here we are, less than two months later, and a next-gen PS VR for the PlayStation 5 has been announced - if only in a nebulous, non-committal way. And then today, the PlayStation Blog announced a PS VR Spotlight, with new game announcements arriving every half-hour all day long.
Fine, Sony. Fine, PS VR fans. PS VR is alive. I take it all back. (My Oculus Quest 2 is still super-dope, though).
The first announcement of the day? Only DOOM3 - VR Edition, which will be arriving in 26 days on March 29, 2021.
No big deal. It's only an entire DOOM game in VR - complete with its expansions. Sigh. Let me dig out my PS VR fanboy hat and put it back on. I'm sure it still fits.
