On March 1st, a new wave of Free with Pro games will be arriving on Stadia Pro. The new PixelJunk game - PixelJunk Raiders - stole all the headlines, but it is only one of four games coming to the platform. Stadia Pro members will also be able to snag PAC-MAN Mega Tunnel Battle (totally know what that one is), Reigns (everyone knows what that one is), and AVICII Invector (wait, what?).
One of these things is not like the other. I know all about PAC-MAN and Reigns, but until today I had no idea what AVICII: Invector is. Luckily, my good buddy Google is here to help me out. A few searches later, and I'm now more excited about AVICII: Invector than I am about the other games.
My in-depth research reveals that AVICII was a Swedish DJ and music producer who tragically died in 2018 at the age of 29. Before passing away, he started a project with Hello There games to create a game/digital experience that would allow players to experience his music in new ways. After his passing, his family and Hello There Games continued working on the project, releasing it in 2019 to critical acclaim.
The PS4 version of AVICII: Invector has an 80 rating on Metacritic, which is no small achievement. On Steam, the game carries an Overwhelmingly Positive user rating. No small potatoes there.
The gameplay looks somewhat similar to Thumper (but without all of the existential despair), with players zipping along a path and pressing buttons to the rhythm of the music. I snagged this info from AVICII: Invector's Steam page, just so we can have a better idea of what is going on here.
Sounds pretty great, right? AVICII: Invector arrived on Stadia on March 1, as part of the Free with Pro program.
