I was a big fan of Nightmare Reaper Chapter 1 (GN Score 8.5) when Blazing Bit Games dropped it into early access last summer. The game's low-fi Wolfenstein 3D aesthetic, creative premise and smart, judicious use of procedural generation added up to a retro FPS with a unique, scrappy attitude that left me wanting more. Now there is more--a whole lot more--with Nightmare Reaper Chapter 2. This new installment not only adds a ton of new weapons, 15 new enemies and a whole host of new levels to shred through, it also overhauls a lot of the original game. Numerous bugfixes and balances have been implemented and the enemy sprite art has been completely redone.
I knew this game was one to watch amid the host of so-called "Boomer Shooters" just for how off-the-wall and unpredictable it was. I've been craving more of the kind of pixel carnage it delivers so I'll be diving into Chapter 2 this week. The game is still in early access on Steam and GOG for $18.99 if you still haven't picked it up yet.
