One of the greatest games of the PS2/GameCube/Xbox era is getting a full remaster with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. The Ubisoft Forward trailer seems very faithful to the 2003 original, aside from upgraded visuals, and that's perfectly fine by me. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is (no pun intended) one of the true timeless classics of the 6th console generation. I recently replayed it for my wife and I was surprised at how well it holds up. It's a genuinely gripping action platformer with a bittersweet fairytale love story that's just as poignant and satisfying 17 years later.
This remake is currently scheduled for release on PS4, Xbox One and PC on January 21st, 2021, although there is some confusion as to when or even if it will come to Nintendo Switch. That annoyance aside, I'm glad this game is getting introduced to a new audience as it's about as close to a perfect game and story as you can get. I've got my fingers crossed that the game's sequels, Warrior Within and The Two Thrones, get the same remake treatment as the whole Sands trilogy is pretty consistently great. That said I'm just happy that Ubisoft is showing some love to the Prince of Persia again. For a long time it seemed like they abandoned the IP after Assassin's Creed really took off.
