File this under outstanding news. The Witcher 3, a game that is unquestionably one of the best of this entire console generation, is going to be kicking off the next generation as well. CD Projekt Red, has announced they are bringing the game to the PS5 and Xbox X, at at no additional charge to owners of the game in the current gen. So while there will be a standalone version of the game for purchase on the new consoles, if you own the game right now for PS4 or Xbox One, you will get the updated game for free. The updated version will take advantage of the technical improvements the new consoles offer, like ray tracing and faster loading times, and will see those improvements cover the entire base game and all DLC.
On a personal note, this is great news because not only is one of my favorite games going to be waiting for me on the other side of the console upgrade, but I've been meaning to start a new play-through for a good while now with the game sitting on my hard drive taking 60+GB of precious space. Well, I just hit the delete button on the PS4 and will put that new play-through on hold until I can do so on the PS5. Thanks for the free space, CD Projekt Red! Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to go re-work some monthly budgets to scrounge up the spare change for a new console...
