Cyberpunk 2077 gives you a few different Lifepaths (backstories) to choose from. These appear to be something you'll choose on or around the character creation screen, picking between Street Kid, Nomad, or Corpo.
Street Kid has you growing up in Heywood District where "the whole street was my family." Neighbors help each other out. The implication being, hope you're from this neighborhood. Otherwise you aren't getting any love from the Valentinos or 6th Street gangs. Oh hey, there's a club called Afterlife, just like in Mass Effect 2.
Nomad is more my speed. It's that redneck life. That hickpunk. The main character even sounds like he's writing lyrics to a country song. Talking about bouncing through the hills in his Bobber, getting his first kiss in a synth cornfield. Folks just sitting around a campfire, enjoying each others' company, using the word "family" just like the Street Kids do, then heading for the big city, as "an outcast among outcasts."
Then there's Corpos. Apex predators at the top of the cool blue corporate ladder, shark chum coughing up TPS reports, where self-worth and net worth go up and down like stock prices riding an elevator.
An almost-unifying thread between each of these backstories: Seeing "Turn Back" or "Trust No One" appearing in the mirrors you look into. For the Nomads and Corpos, anyway. I guess you don't get a lot of time to reflect as a Street Kid.
Cyberpunk 2077 is coming November 19 to PS4 and PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X, PC and Stadia.
