Set in the same universe as the game, Cyberpunk 2077: Edgerunners is following in the footsteps of CD Projekt Red's other seminal franchise, the Witcher, with a television program on Netflix. This time around, instead of live action, the show will be an anime. Edgerunners will be a standalone, 10-episode story following a street kid trying to survive the Cyberpunk universe.
I love how CD Projekt Red does more than just make games, but really invest themselves in the world building around them. While that was a little easier before with much of the world already created around the Witcher characters from the novels and short stories, this time around they get to break ground with even more creative freedom it would appear. So they are teaming up with Netflix to distribute the anime and Studio Trigger to bring the project to life.
Cyberpunk 2077 is slated for a November release, but the anime won't hit the streaming service until 2022. So there will be well over a year to get comfortable in the Cyberpunk world before taking in this side story.
