Some of my favorite games have been walking simulators. Dear Esther started it off for me—started it off for everyone, arguably—but walking sims have evolved all the way up to Death Stranding, in one sense. I even try to turn non-walking sims into walking sims. Like Skyrim, for instance, or anything with an open world. If you can walk in a game, I'm walking in a game. Gives me time to relax and take in the sights. That's why you'll see the word "slow play" in a lot of my Twitch streams.
So, now that I've sufficiently buried the lede, Hunting Simulator 2 is a walking sim (with rifles) that I can play without forcefully walking where any other sane person would run!
This bestiary overview explains why. Well, it doesn't show you running around and scaring off all your potential kills. But it shows you that lacking care and stealth in your movements is a good way to run off all your prey. The beasts have routines that take them from watering holes to favorite hangouts, and while most of these critters are going to run when they spot you, they don't all run off at the drop of a hat. The goats might. But the deer will probably stare at you for a few seconds before they go bounding off. Must be why they get bagged more often. There are 33 species to take down across three continents, and you'll only find them in their native habitat. Happy hunting.
Hunting Simulator 2 walks onto the scene July 16 on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.
