This week, Ubisoft announced the Anno History Collection, which aims to restore some of the earliest versions of the Anno series. The collection will include restored versions of the first four Anno games: 1602, 1503, 1701 and 1404.
While the gameplay will remain unchanged, a number of improvements will be available to the remastered games. All of the games have been ported to 64-bit to improve stability and resolutions up to 4k will be supported. Multiplayer will be improved across all available games, and it will be added for Anno 1503. Even old saves will be fully supported by the new versions of each game. Lastly, all expansion and additional content will be included with the new versions.
As a final bonus for Anno 1800 players, purchasing the collection or any of the individual Anno History games will reward exclusive ornaments in Anno 1800. There's one for each individual version, and another for the collection itself, so buying the collection will unlock all five.
I've found myself hooked into Anno 1800 quite a few times over the past year, and I'm definitely excited to be able to try out some of the older iterations of the game I never got to play. For the more veteran Anno players, this is a solid opportunity for a trip down memory lane, especially without the headaches of trying to get a 20 year old game to run on a modern PC.
