2K Games posted a new blog about the future of the WWE games today and also confirmed what WWE said a week ago. There will be no simulation WWE 2K21 this year. 2K has said that they are going to take the extra year to give the fans the game they have been asking for. Here is their official statement from their blog
All of that being said, we hear you and we know you want more from the franchise, so here’s what we’re going to do: we are applying what we’ve learned to the next WWE 2K simulation game with a renewed focus on quality and fun. As part of that commitment, we are extending the production timeline and will not be releasing a WWE 2K simulation game in 2020 (T2 fiscal year 2021). We want to ensure the development team at Visual Concepts can create a great game that will entertain grizzled WWE 2K veterans, as well as newcomers who want to climb through the ropes and step into the ring for the very first time.
Even though there is no simulation game coming out this year, 2K announced a brand new WWE game called WWE 2K Battlegrounds which will focus on arcade gameplay instead. It looks like a spiritual successor to WWE All-Stars to me with cartoony looking characters and ridiculous special moves. The game is being created by the same team that made the NBA 2K Playground game.
WWE 2K Battlegrounds will release this Fall. No official release date or what consoles it will be on just yet.
