I've never had a particular problem with game updates. I guess I was a little miffed when Michael Jackson was removed from Plants vs Zombies but that was on the entertainer's estate pulling his likeness, nothing to do with the developer behind the game. If you've ever been irked about a new update, there's usually not much you can do anyway, unless you're a fan of Dead Cells, because Dead Cells is now opening up previous builds to its players on Steam.
Joan Blachere, creative director at Evil Empire, describes the rationale behind the un-update update: "As dedicated as we have been and remain to growing and refining Dead Cells, we’ve heard from select community members mourning the loss of their personal favorite elements from prior builds. Our goal with the Legacy Update is to help veteran fans rediscover their favorite moments from Dead Cells’ expansive build archive while letting curious newcomers explore what’s led to the version familiar to them. Giving the gift of time travel while still keeping future updates available to everyone is about as close to a Christmas miracle as we can get." I like the idea, and love that they are going all the way back to the Early Access builds as options to clock back to.
I've not played Dead Cells yet myself but it is absolutely at the top of my list of games to get around to next. It combines a metroidvania style gameplay with a very unique loop - when you die, you die, starting back at the beginning; but you get to keep your upgrades on the next run. Now stronger can before can you overcome the hurdle that tripped you up last run? Something the Kill. Die. Learn. Repeat trailer below does a good job illustrating. It also introduces new techniques to tackle previous challenges with abilities acquired later and unlocks new sections of the map that had to be skipped previously lacking the proper upgrades. It sounds super interesting, I've just been waiting for a good enough sale for the Switch to dive in. While not on sale on that particular platform, the game is presently getting a 30% discount on Steam for the PC (https://store.steampowered.com/app/588650/Dead_Cells/) and the full press release is below the Read More link.

Bordeaux, France (Dec. 23, 2019) Motion Twin and Evil Empire today released Dead Cells’ Legacy Update, a massive addition which features new items, mutations, and other stocking stuffers beside its key present to the community; fans can now defy time and return to Dead Cells’ previous iterations, exploring the range of features and mechanics within distinctive builds which paved the way for the critically acclaimed roguelite.
The Legacy Update spans back to Dead Cells’ very first Early Access version and will continue to gather new builds as the game evolves. The team couldn’t help but add a few extra bonuses, too; the Legacy Update includes two new mutations, rebalancing for the 3 least-used weapons and a Santa skin, which is kitsch as hell, as it should certainly be.
