Bethesda is introducing a paid subscription to Fallout 76

Oh Bethesda. I really wish I could be in your meetings when you bring up these ideas and think people would take to them. Then again, there are probably folks out there that will pay for it so you'll probably come out ahead on this one.

Today, Bethesda announced what's called Fallout 1st, a paid subscription to Fallout 76 that nets you a few perks.

Let's start with private servers, what a lot of folks were clamoring for. Yes, this will be available and locked behind a paywall. Luckily, only one person has to be a Fallout 1st member to make a private server. No, you won't be using your own computer to host, but it would've been nice to have that option.

Remember when people were complaining about the stash limit? Sure, it's been increased a few times but Bethesda has stated this was done for technical reasons. Now, they may have solved the technical reason because you can have unlimited storage called a Scrapbox provided you pay them by being a Fallout 1st member.

A survival tent will also be yours which includes a Stash, Cooking Station, the unlimited Scrapbox, Sleeping Bag, and and instrument for a quick setup base on the go. It'll also be another fast travel destination for you once deployed.

Who doesn't love the Ranger outfit from New Vegas? If you do, you'll have to pay to get it as this is also going to be available only to subscribers.

You'll also get a monthly Atom credit of 1,650 Atoms to spend on whatever you want. 1600 Atoms would cost you $15 so you could think of it as buying a bunch of Atoms every month and getting the above for "free" if that helps.

So, for a price of $12.99 a month or $100 a year if you do a yearly membership, you'll get the above and more.

Let's take a little step back. This is going to cost more than XBOX Game Pass ($9.99), PlayStation Now ($9.99), and some entertainment subscriptions out there. On a yearly cost, it's the same as EA Origins at $100.You better LOVE Fallout 76 if you want to spend that money on a single game.

As you can probably guess, this isn't going over too well with the community.

Here I am, staring at the Fallout 76 Deluxe Edition and non-moldy helmet wondering why I spent the money I did on it and when I will ever play it again. I haven't touched the game since a few weeks after launch. And seeing what Bethesda's doing with the game, I don't know if I'll ever jump in again.
