More On: Return of the Obra Dinn

For those of us that missed Return of the Obra Dinn when it released on PC, developer Lucas Pope and publisher 3909 have a gift. Exactly one year to the day after its original release, Return of the Obra Dinn is out today on every major console.

For those that are unfamiliar, Return of the Obra Dinn puts players in charge of the investigation surrounding the mysterious disappearance of the titular merchant ship. Slowly allowing the player to comb through the events that took place on the Obra Dinn before its disappearance - and unfolding with new perspectives and angles - Return of the Obra Dinn asks players to use logic, reason and deduction to figure out exactly what took place on the ship.

Obra Dinn is constructed with a very cool and unique line/dot art style, making it resemble a living graphic novel illustration or newsprint photo. Check it out in the Japanese trailer for the Switch version:

The official description reads as follows:

"In 1802, the merchant ship Obra Dinn set out for the Orient with over 200 tons of trade goods. It never arrived. After five long years lost at sea, the missing ship has drifted back into the port at Falmouth with damaged sails and no visible crew. Your mission: dispatch immediately, find means to board the ship and discover what went wrong. This critically acclaimed first-person adventure, from the creator of the indie hit Papers, Please, features evocative visuals and unique exploration-based gameplay. You’ll need to use all your skills of logical deduction to reveal the terrifying truth behind this irresistible mystery."

Gaming Nexus has yet to review Return of the Obra Dinn, but the games carries a whopping 89 Metacritic score, which I believe translates to "freaking awesome".

Return of the Obra Dinn is available today on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, retailing for $19.99.
