Hideo Kojima's upcoming title Death Stranding is a game that likely won't be truly explained until its release, but if anything, that will only deepen the interest drummed up for it.
What's clear is that, as with all of Mr. Kojima's games, is how influenced it is by cinema. Case in point: Guillermo Del Toro is in it.
Well, it's time to add another director to that list, the guy behind Neon Demon, Drive, and Only God Forgives: the innovative and eccentric Danish auteur Nicolas Winding Refn.
In a new trailer released today, we get a character highlight of a guy named Heartmann, who is played by Refn. In what is no doubt a snippet of a much longer cutscene, we see Heartman conversing with Norman Reedus's main character on the topic of film, music, and a focus on how "most of life's basic functions fit rather easily into a 21 minute time slot."
From the dialogue and visual hints, it seems like Heartman lives for 21 minutes, and then has to go back into a coma or death-like trance. Which is to say that yes, it's a very Hideo Kojima game. Watch below. Death Stranding releases November 8th.
