From its debut in front of 13,000 fans in Tokyo from late April, the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra is continuing on its world tour. From the press release: "While the first half of the show went through the memories of each game, one-by-one, the second half built up again the tension of Kingdom Hearts III, until the final battle and its bitter sweet aftermath, ending the saga as it began."
While this news is a little bit ancillary to classic gaming fare, I think it's a lovely idea. I'm not a giant Kingdom Hearts fan myself. I've just never actually gave the series a try but I know the games are well loved and can see the appeal of the mashup of classic Disney and Final Fantasy characters. What I do know is how powerful orchestral music can be and how much emotion in media is invoked by a soundtrack that hits the right notes at the right time. To have an opportunity to take that emotion out of the television screen and into a concert hall is simply awesome. And I love the idea of arranging the composition to match the flow of the game.
