In case you didn't believe us when we said Total War: Three Kingdoms – Reign of Blood DLC is Mortal Kombat as heck, then allow us to present Exhibit B. Here's a "Top 10 Most Gruesome Kills" video put together by none other than Three Kingdoms developer, Creative Assembly.
While conflict between the thousands of combatants on screen will be bloodier in general, these particular kills are pulled off by your generals. Generals don't just shout orders from the back of the class in Three Kingdoms. They run up in a one-horse charge and toss entire enemy regiments left and right. And they also have a tendency to go in for a joust charge—where someone gets knocked way off their horse—and then throw down their gauntlets in one-on-one duels. It's nuts. Armies will march around these duels in a wide circle, letting the generals do their crazy solo fights on their own.
Sure, it's not tear-out-your-spine comedy gore. So it's not exactly like Mortal Kombat, I'll concede. It's a lot more believable level of gore, which makes it even more unnerving. I didn't think this "blood pack" would be for me. But I've thoroughly changed my mind. Three Kingdoms as a whole has already skewed my expectations in every way possible for a Total War game, and that's a good, good thing.
