Man, Dusk really kicked off a retro FPS renaissance. First Prodeus, then Wrath: Aeon of Ruin, and now Nightmare Reaper from BlazingBit Games. This latest game in the parade of 90s FPS glorification definitely leans heavier on the Doom end of the spectrum, with bombastic, colorful sprite work and copious pixelated carnage. The art style is surprisingly vibrant here--a friend of mine would describe the color palette as "clown puke," and I'm getting some Hexen and Blood vibes too. You can test-drive Nightmare Reaper this summer when it enters Early Access on Steam. When it comes to 90s FPS homages, I say the more the bloodier.
