I'm not gonna lie, I've been anticipating today for a couple of weeks. Today at PAX East Gearbox made a few announcements, the big one being that Borderlands 3 is official. In fact, not only is it official, but Gearbox has been developing it for five years...FIVE! That's insane to go that long without anything major about it being leaked. During the announcement Gearbox played a new trailer...and then played it again after some technical difficulties. Just looking at the trailer makes me wish the game was out now.
In addition, not only will Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel be getting ultra HD upgrades, but for the first time ever, the game that started it all will be getting a PS4 and Xbox One remaster. The remaster though is more than just a straight up visual upgrade as it'll add in actual heads and skins instead of just color changes, Shift Codes, a mini-map, and four-player split-screen co-op. In other words, Borderlands Remastered is going to feel a bit more like Borderlands 2. Whether it's HD upgrades for 2 and Pre-Sequel, the original getting remastered, or a brand new game, the upcoming months are looking good for the planet of Pandora.
Earlier today, developer Gearbox Software, in partnership with publisher 2K, officially kicked off “The Year of Borderlands” by confirming Borderlands 3 during its panel at PAX East and debuting the very first gameplay footage in an extended trailer for the long-awaited continuation of the blockbuster franchise.
Also during the panel, Gearbox announced:
A brand new remastered edition of the original Borderlands called Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition will launch on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on April 3.
A free Ultra HD Texture Pack for Borderlands: The Handsome Collection on consoles, as well as Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Borderlands 2 on PC, will also launch April 3.
All Borderlands 2 DLC will be added to Borderlands 2 VR for PlayStation VR for free this summer.
