EVE Online's annual EVE Fanfest is operating very differently this year. Fans won't be flying out for a long weekend to "Party at the Top of the World" in Reykjavic, Iceland. Instead, the fanfest is now the EVE Invasion World Tour and is spread across multiple continents over an eight-month period. It's nuts.
This invasion kicks off in Amsterdam ("EVEsterdam," of course) this weekend, March 23-24. But then it heads to EVE Russia in St. Petersburg in May, followed by EVE Down Under in Sydney, Australia. The world tour continues in Canada, Germany, the U.S., and the U.K. The U.S. one will be held in the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. Not my usual, but nice.
I sincerely hope they have good turnouts at each location. One of the locations is actually called Fanfest HOME, where CCP will hold a home-sized version of the fanfest in a player's living room, where everyone else will be able to watch and participate via CCP's Twitch channel on August 23. What the actual heck, CCP.
This isn't just a hobbit rock concert and subsequent pub crawl, though, since these fanfests will of course reveal gameplay tweaks and changes to the 16-year-old MMO, tie into big in-game events, hold tournaments, and throw parties.
EVE Online is out now, and has been out since 2003, heh. They've got a free-to-start version, and you can bump up to a premium monthly subscription if this space MMO gets its hooks into you. I downloaded the free version again just this week. Please don't gank me in nullsec.
