Rage 2 is one of the weirdest comebacks in the last couple years of gaming. The switch to developer Avalanche Studio has completely up-ended the original game's attitude, and that new attitude seems to be "gooooofy!" The new Wasteland Superhero trailer demonstrates how your character is basically Mad Max on illicit pharmaceuticals, but I have to admit that the gravity-bending weapons and overhauled car combat look compelling. It's just jarring, considering how relatively understated the first Rage was, to see the sequel go in such a neon-splattered nonsense direction. I'm hoping this free-wheeling aesthetic is exactly what the series needed to get back on track and establish its own identity.
Rage 2 is still scheduled for a May 14th release.
