it's no secret that Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has had a...troubled development cycle. While not anything near a Mighty No. 9 disaster, Koji Igarashi's spiritual successor to Castlevania has been delayed numerous times since its 2015 announcement, most recently into 2019. Igarashi and his studio ArtPlay did release an 8-bit companion game, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, back in May, and it was fairly well received. However, they need a helping hand to finish the main game.
According to Nintendolife, Igarashi has enlisted Wayforward Technologies to complete Bloodstained. I think this is a match made in heaven. Wayforward is known for their masterful pixel art and 2D Metroidvania games. They are most famous for the Shantae series, which I'm currently replaying much to my wife's amusement, but they also made a pretty kickass Aliens game a few years back. If any studio can help Bloodstained cross the finish line in style, it's Wayforward.
I'm still really looking forward to Bloodstained, whether it makes its 2019 release or not, but here's hoping Wayforward can help the game stick to its current release window.
